2024 Hog Island Winners

The Black River Audubon Society is proud to announce that Kimberly Williams of Euclid, Ohio, is the recipient of this year's teen scholarship to Hog Island Audubon Camp in Maine.

Kimberly is a distinguished student at the Cleveland School of Science and Medicine, where she has earned awards for excellence and has been on the honor roll. She takes a full complement of Advanced Placement courses.

In addition to her academic achievements, Kimberly is actively involved in Buster Banish’s Bird Nerd group, where she passionately pursues her interest in ornithology. This is the second year Kimberly has applied for the scholarship, showcasing her commitment and enthusiasm for bird conservation and education.

The Black River Audubon Society is delighted to announce that Sue Newcomb of Avon Lake, Ohio, has been awarded this year's adult scholarship to attend Hog Island Audubon Camp in Maine.

Sue is a retired science teacher from the Westlake school system and a valued member of the Black River Audubon Society. She is also a Master Gardener and an active member of several conservation-oriented groups.

Sue has expressed a keen interest in learning, sharing, and educating the public about bird conservation. She has graciously offered to give a presentation to the Black River Audubon Society upon her return from the camp.

2025 Scholarship Information

Once again in 2025, the Black River Audubon Society will be awarding scholarships to the Hog Island Audubon camp in Maine. This year the society will be awarding two teen scholarships to the camp “Coastal Marine Bird Studies for Teen – Two” and one adult scholarship to “Sharing Nature: An Educator’s Week” or another adult camp if available. A Society scholarship includes all camp fees plus up to a $600 travel reimbursement.
